Abstract:

General Background Adolescence represents a critical developmental transition requiring robust emotional control to navigate complex psychological and social changes. Specific Background Junior high school students frequently exhibit emotional instability, while existing guidance and counseling services remain dominated by conventional verbal methods lacking interactive engagement tools. Knowledge Gap Although expressive arts demonstrate therapeutic potential, the specific integration of traditional movements into structured digital media for school-based group counseling remains underexplored. Aims This study develops and evaluates an expressive movement-based Malay Medley Dance video designed for group guidance to support students' emotional management capacities. Results Utilizing the ADDIE framework, the resulting digital platform achieved high feasibility ratings from material experts (82%) and media experts (75%). Practicality assessments yielded 95% from educators and 80% from students. Field implementation revealed substantial behavioral transformations; students transitioned from initial hesitation to active participation, directing negative feelings such as anger and sadness into calmness and relaxation. Novelty This research pioneers the fusion of local cultural heritage, specifically dynamic and calming traditional routines, with structured psychological intervention tools. Implications Providing a valid and practical digital asset, this intervention equips educators with an active, participatory methodology to guide adolescents in managing psychological stress and expressing positive emotions.
